Vantage Point Books debuts fiction and memoir

August 10, 2011

“The small press that thinks big!”

As the publishing industry continues to evolve and change, so does venerable self-publisher Vantage Press. Our launch of Vantage Point Books, a new trade imprint distributed by Ingram Publisher Services, represents just one way Vantage is responding to industry’s evolution. Vantage Point’s inaugural list, announced at Book Expo America in New York City in May, includes these debuts in fiction and memoir:

MY FATHER’S WILL
by Fraydun Manocherian is an exhilarating literary interpretation of Manocherian’s feature film of the same name. Spinning the common process of turning a book into a movie on its head, film writer, director and producer Manocherian takes this chance to delve deeper into the story of sexy, charming self-made billionaire Ferro Olivetti as he moves from the heart of San Francisco to the bustling streets of New York City.

UNCAGED by Paul McKellips is a thrill-a-minute book in which high-tech science clashes with a question of ethics, leaving the human race on the brink of disaster. After a series of attacks on animal researchers, the government takes control with a ban on animal testing that piques the protagonists’ interest and eventually unveils a major conspiracy.

MEN AS TREES WALKING by George Imbragulio is a vibrant literary debut that paints a nostalgic portrait through the story of Elliston, Mississippi, a town steeped in history where the sins of yesterday do not necessarily reflect the changing times.

MEMORY LAKE: THE FOREVER FRIENDSHIPS OF SUMMER by Nancy S. Kyme is moving memoir of youth lost and adulthood reclaimed told in flashbacks centered on summer camp. This wonderful story will take readers on an unforgettable journey back to their own teenage years and remind them of the power of friendships formed that can change the direction of a life.

These exciting new VANTAGE POINT BOOKS are now in bookstores everywhere. Stay tuned for a description of four more summer titles…

    • Many thanks, Meredith!

  4. Just wanting to understand the status of the memoirs and fiction mentioned here. Are they self published? Your company seems to say that Vantage Point is both a self publisher as well as a traditional book publisher. Could we expect to find these books on public library shelves and reviewed in professional journals? Some writers want to know before submitting manuscripts.

    • Hi Julia, some Vantage Point books are indeed author-supported while some have been acquired from agents. We are always looking to promote the best submissions to us as Vantage Point Books regardless of the economic arrangement; most of the Point books blogged so far came through the Vantage Press submission process and most are author-supported. As acquisitions have developed the line over the last year (for publication in the coming seasons) most Point titles are coming via agents. Upcoming Point books include author-supported books but also books by bestselling authors Rexanne Becnel, Allan Topol, and Judith Gould.

All Vantage Point books have the full support of the Ingram Publisher Services sales force and are cataloged, repped, and available online and nationally at booksellers and for library order. Our print orders for the books blogged so far ranged from 3,000 to 5,000, we’ve had a good reception at accounts nationally, and our bestselling title sold through over 500 copies to readers (at point of sale) in its first month, which we’re very excited about. All Vantage Press books are similarly available nationally, but Vantage Point is comprised of the subset that receive the specific sales force boost and the longer print runs to support it.
